Frequently asked questions.

What is Somatic Psychotherapy and how does it differ from traditional talk therapy?

Somatic Psychotherapy is the type of counseling I specialize in. Somatic Psychotherapy utilizes the mind-body connections. Traditional talk therapy is based on the idea that discussing what is going on for you helps to alleviate difficulties. Traditional talk therapy helps to better understand your process by talking about your emotions and feelings. Somatic Psychotherapy also uses traditional talk therapy and also adds awareness of your physical and sometimes spiritual aspects of your experience. I do this in session by first co-creating a safe space for you to feel comfortable sharing your internal world. As you discuss your experiences, I may ask you to check in with your body and to share what comes up for you physically, slowing down to take inventory of the wisdom that your body possess and what your body is communicating.

What is an initial 15 minute Consultation and why should I book one?

Scheduling an introductory phone call allows you the opportunity to ask questions, discuss what your needs are and get a sense of my working style. It gives you the space to decide what the best fit for you is and your needs and if I am a good match for the work you would like to do. It also creates some space for you to discuss your concerns or hopes for therapy without any pressure to commit to working together. My sincere goal is to get you the kind of support that feels right for you.

How long does each therapy sessions typically last?

Sessions are 50 minutes.

How often should I schedule sessions?

Therapy has been found to be most beneficial and productive when incorporated into a client's lifestyle. Generally, sessions are scheduled once a week, especially in the beginning. Having sessions weekly allows the opportunity to establish the necessary therapeutic relationship, provides consistency and allows you to have weekly support.

Do you accept any insurance?

No, I do not accept insurance. However, I can create what is called a Super Bill for you at the end of each month. A Super Bill details the number of sessions, amount paid and other needed information. Please directly ask your insurance company any questions regarding insurance, reimbursement and coverage.  As a health care provider who does not accept insurance, I will provide you something called a Good Faith Estimate. Go to https://therapywithshohreh.com/good-faith-estimate for more information.

Do you offer in-person sessions?

At this time, I do not offer in-person/in-office sessions. Sessions are held via secure HIPAA Compliant Video (Telehealth).

How does Telehealth/Video sessions work?

Sessions are held using a secure HIPAA Compliant Telehealth system that can be used on your computer or your mobile phone. This requires no downloading of software/apps if you are using your computer. If you choose to use a mobile device/smartphone, then you will need to download Simple Practice’s App. Every week a secure link will be emailed to you before your appointment. At your session time, you will just click on the link emailed and you will be taken to the page to start the video session.
